Release Blitz: Somebody Else's Sky - Jessica Hawkins

Title: Somebody Else's Sky
Series: Something in the Way #2
Author: Jessica Hawkins
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 22, 2017

If I closed my eyes, I could still see them—all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. The glint of Lake’s gold bracelet. Pink cotton candy on Tiffany’s tongue. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would: my struggle to do right by both sisters. To let Lake soar. To lift Tiffany up. The sacrifices I made for them, I made willingly.
A better man would’ve walked away by now, but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised myself I’d keep enough distance. If I’d learned one thing from my past, it was that love came in different forms. You could love passionately, hurt deep, die young. Or you could provide the kind of firm, steady support someone else could lean on.
Lake was everything I wanted, and nothing I could ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after. The way to love her was to let her shine—even if it would be for somebody else.
Book two in the Something in the Way series, an epic, 3-book saga of forbidden love...

Review
5 Stars

I keep opening my Kindle up expecting the story to be longer, to find the next book here already, to know what happens next for Lake, Manning, and Tiffany. Jessica Hawkins takes readers to the past, both in setting and in age. It was so easy to read the words of the main characters and picture yourself as them; the innocent teen view of Lake leaving you hopeful and desperate, while the hardened thoughts of Manning keep you jaded. Somebody Else's Sky takes place a year after the first book, the events from Something in the Way holding everyone's life hostage. Lake is a year older, a senior in high school, and so in love with Manning it is all encompassing. Manning is a different man, he still feels the same, but his outlook on life is dimmer, it's rough around the edges, and it's filled with Tiffany. It's a love story that isn't mean to be, the distance to leap too great. And yet, you feel the nostalgic youthful hope of a crush, you want the forbidden to happen, because Jessica Hawkins makes it all feel so real with her beautiful prose and attention to detail.

"'I forget what it's like to have a teenage crush.' He glanced at Manning. 'It can feel like the whole damn world, can't it?'"

Somebody Else's Sky is the perfect middle book for this three book saga, it's the bridge between before and after. Lake and Manning are complex characters, the emotions between them burn like a bonfire, but the angst they experience between them is one of the many reasons why they simply aren't meant to be. I found myself feeling less fond of Manning and favoring Lake, I want her success so badly. Somebody Else's Sky gives you the key to unlock both Manning and Lake's innermost thoughts and all the secrets that surround their forbidden connection. It's a tale of love, hope, pain, and doing what is right or wrong. I can admit I do not love how everything played out, but it didn't take away from the book for me at all. Jessica Hawkins writes with a purpose, with an incredible ending promised to readers with the upcoming release of book three, Move The Stars. This series is for those who love reads that push the boundaries with forbidden love.

"...I pictured the two stars and realized for the first time the permanent distance between them."
