Rosie
They say that life is a beautiful lie and death a painful truth. They're right.
No one has ever made me feel more alive than the guy who serves as a constant reminder that my clock is ticking.
He is my forbidden, shiny apple.
The striking fallacy to my blunt, raw, truth.
He is also my sister's ex-boyfriend.
One thing you should know before you judge me;
I saw him first. I craved him first. I loved him first.
Eleven years later, he waltzed into my life, demanding a second chance.
Dean Cole wants to be my bronze horseman. My white knight has finally arrived. Hopefully, he isn’t too late.
Dean
They say the brightest stars burn out the fastest. They’re right.
She sets my mind on fire.
All smart mouth, snarky attitude and a huge heart.
In a world where everything is dull, she shines like fucking Sirius.
Eleven years ago, fate tore us apart.
This time, I fucking dare it to try.
Getting to her is a battlefield, but man, that’s why they call me Ruckus.
Rosie LeBlanc is about to find out how hard I can fight.
And conquering her will be the sweetest victory.
4 Stars
Dean "Ruckus" Cole has the money, alcohol, and drugs part of life down. He can party like no one else, but he's doing it to fill the void in his life left by his overwhelming desire for his ex-girlfriends sister and a secret that no one knows about. In high school, where he first earned his nickname and become one of the Four Hotholes of All Saints High, he saw Rosie LeBlanc. Never mind the fact that he dated her sister, she's moved on to one of his best friends and now it's his turn to win the prize.
Rosie LeBlanc, better known as Baby LeBlanc to Ruckus, knows who she wants, but she can't have him. The only person to really be there for her and never held her disease, Cystic Fibrosis, over her is her sister and that means Dean Cole is off limits. She lives her life to the fullest, accepting that a long term relationship isn't possible with her predicted short lifespan, but Dean is slowly breaking that wall down. As they head home for her sister's wedding, the weight of everyone's judgement sits on her and she finds solidarity with Dean, but he still has that secret.
"I forgot what it felt like to spend rel time with Ruckus. Forgot the mayhem he stirred inside me."
L.J. Shen has done it again with the second, full length installment in her Sinners of Saint series. Ruckus is dramatic, has a bit of angst, and tackles some real life issues with grace. Plus, it's got all sorts of hotness with alpha males and smut scenes that make you blush. Main characters Dean and Rosie carry significant weight on their shoulders, their lives heavy with sorrows and regrets. Their opportunity to be together is fraught with complications, despite their desires for one another. I both loved and hated the push and pull between these two, they had so many excuses to not work and one massive reason to work that should've out shined it all.
"I was going to eat my cake, and keep it. Impossible?
Just watch."
I loved that Ruckus was about attraction, with the characters facing their growing lust for one another as well as dealing with the repercussions of Dean dating Rosie's sister. It isn't just a clean, easy romance, especially when you mix in Dean's secret and Rosie's illness. Nothing about Ruckus is cut and dry and it does take some time to get to the meat of the story, but it's definitely not boring getting there. From late night partying to the serious discussions readers didn't even know Dean could have, Ruckus is the romance we all hoped for in the Sinners of Saint series.
L.J. Shen resides in sunny California with her husband, son, chubby cat and wild, wild dreams.
Her passion is to write badass stories, sushi, UFC and her awesome family and friends (not in this order, though. Obviously, sushi comes before writing. Oh, and also the family part.)
She spend the first half of her twenties traveling the world and is now paying all the fun with extra shifts in front of her MacBook. Feel free to contact her on her Facebook page. She loves to hear from her readers.
