I was a pawn.
Weak and someone easily manipulated.
To be played with as he saw fit.
Until YOU.
YOU shone light in my now dark world.
It was YOU who made me smile.
For the first time in this game, I had hope.
All because of YOU.
The more powerful pieces on the board, however, were a threat to YOU and me.
They would win at any cost.
Two kings ruling with an iron fist.
Allies or opponents, it was hard to tell.
YOU promised to save me.
Told me we would win.
But then I was on the wrong side of the board.
This isn't YOU, baby.
And I don't know what to do.
The game is almost over and I'm counting on YOU.
Tick, tock...

Warning: This Isn’t You, Baby is a dark romance. Strong sexual themes, excessive drug use, and violence, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. If you are sensitive to dark themes, then this story is not for YOU. This story will make YOU smile. This story will make YOU angry. This story will make YOU crazy. I hope YOU love it, baby.

"I hate you," she reminds him, although her voice has lost its bit. " I wouldn't be doing this for you."

K. Webster took things to a whole new level with This Isn't You, Baby, mixing the story readers have grown to love with several new elements. The darkness has changed, leaving behind Hannah and Gabe and bringing us Gabriella, Brie, Gabe's daughter and the love interest of Bailey and War's eldest son, Ren. Her world is nothing like we've grown used to in the War & Peace series, the evil threatening to consume Brie is unexpected and the romance is more sweet than scary, though it doesn't start that way. Without giving anymore away, I loved the suspenseful romance and new bad guys we got in This Isn't You, Baby. The ending though, whoa, I haven't read a cliffhanger that guts me like this one did.

Immediately, I feel his presence.
Terrifying and menacing. Possessive.

I surprisingly found myself enjoying This Isn't You, Baby more than the previous three novels, partially due to my ability to relate to some parts of it better and also due to the story being a bit more realistic. I found myself very interested in Brie's family business, her relationships with her friends, and her natural ability to go with the flow of life's changes. However, there is mental and emotional abuse, rape, graphic violence, drug use, etc, that makes everything that much more suspenseful and also maybe a bit harder on the readers. Brie's life isn't easy, she's in a constant state of questioning everything, but she also has this unyielding will to survive. Of all the characters in the War & Peace series she just might be my favorite. Brie's transition from youth to adult is painted with darkness and just when things seem to be looking up it takes a complete nosedive. My heart ached for her, parts of the book physically hurt to read, but her ability to overcome and the twists that Webster threw in make me desperate for the next book, to see what could come next in Brie's life. The ending also gives us just a glimpse at how much the characters of previous books could come to play in This Isn't Me, Baby.

Stars dance and glitter around me.
Nothing makes sense anymore. He takes away my pain despite being the one to dole it out to me. I'm on a seesaw of confusion. Up and down, trying to decide between right and wrong.

While it could be easily read as a standalone, trust me when I say you have to have read the previous books first. The series has morphed into an epic dark romance and the characters lives have entangled themselves with my own life. If you want tears and frustration, love and lust, and dark dark dark scenes that make you question everything, War & Peace is the series to pick up. In this case, I'll be mourning the loss of my new favorite book boyfriend, a man so fierce and loyal, and looking forward to the next release. Don't take too long Kristi!

But she's in love. With another man. A man I drove her to with my lies.

I can't help but get high off the vengeance. More satisfying than any hit of bliss that ever swam through my veins.
