What is on your Currently Reading shelf?

It was a busy weekend for me, I made it 15% through a book before I had to clean up another pile of puppy pee and realized reading wouldn't be an option. That's right, a puppy! We got a cute puppy last weekend; we have named him Ghost. He's adorable, handsome, and a big time consumer. We'll officially get him on a schedule this week, because both T and I have work, plus I have a ginormous pile of books to read.

I bet now you're wondering why I have a pile of books to read right? It isn't just my usual pile of books I want to read, it's books I have to read. Not just for reviews I am committed to, but because I am going to Authors in the OC! So, I did what any book loving girl would do and bought a pile of books to have signed in person. I purchased books that I've had on my wishlist shelf for a long time, I purchased books I had on my Kindle and wanted hard copies of, and I purchased books I'd never even heard of but felt like I should know the author's writing. It was a serious situation at first, but now I've calmed down a bit since my pile of books arrived. Then I realized, I have to read all these books before the event. It's in 6 days. That's two books a day at bare minimum. So what did I do? I started a book that wasn't on the list. I am a basket case. Lucky for me, my wonderful friend Dream created us some beautiful canvases to have signed and if I don't finish the books, I just will have more to read for the future. I do plan to start some, probably tonight, after I finish the book I am currently reading.

I thought it would be fun to detail some of the books I am currently reading for this week, as I will probably only blog about 2-3 of them total. I keep a fancy spreadsheet for my books, a list of reads for Netgalley and a list of reads for personal. I record them by date received/purchased, publish date, and personal due date/Netgalley archive date. If I plan to blog about them, I add an extra column to record anything extra. Currently, there is a section highlighted in breast cancer pink for the Authors in the OC list.

Can't Walk Away - Ashlee Taylor
This one will be on the blog no later than tomorrow, so keep your eyes open! For now, here's the blurb from Goodreads.
"Christianna Thomas only wanted a break from her boring life…
But when she wakes up in a strange hotel room with absolutely no memories of what transpired, she has no other choice but to return to her writing career, plagued by dreams of an enigmatic, silver-eyed man.
Nicholas Prescotti is haunted by flashes of a breathtaking beauty he can’t believe is real…
He tries to force her from his mind and focus on his obligations to his powerful family, but when he crosses paths with his mystery woman again, he is driven to uncover the truth about that night.
They find something they never anticipated…and much more than they bargained for.
As a result of their first forgotten meeting and Nico’s determination to seize the reins of his own life, family ties are severed and allies become rivals. When trust is betrayed and events are set in motion, Nico and Christianna find themselves in grave danger just when they should be happiest.
When confronted with secrets and deadly agendas threatening the lives of those she loves most, will Christianna leave Nico?
Or will she discover she can’t walk away…"

See books after the jump.

I really cannot wait to meet these authors, I decided to go after seeing Beth Flynn announce she was going last minute. My friend Mindy graciously gave me her two tickets she couldn't use and I invited Dream along. Dream is a fellow book lover and we are constantly sending each other suggestions, so this will be a lot of fun.

"Landon Brinkley’s dreams are all coming true. She’s landed an internship with the fabulous Selah Smith, event planner for the Hollywood elite, taking her from small-town Texas to the bright lights of LA. Landon soon finds herself in a world in which spending a million dollars on an event—even a child’s birthday party—is de rigueur and the whims of celebrity clients are life-and-death matters. At first, the thrill of working on A-list parties and celebrity weddings is enough to get Landon through the seventy-five-hour workweeks and endless abuse at the hands of her mercurial boss. But when the reality of the business reveals itself, she’s forced to make a choice: do whatever it takes to get ahead, or stay true to herself.

Drawing on the author’s real-life experiences as an event planner to the stars, Party Girl takes readers on an adventure among Hollywood’s most beautiful—and most outrageous—people, revealing the ugly side of Hollywood’s prettiest parties."

"Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…"

"He was my older brother's best friend.
He was never supposed to be mine.
I thought we would get it out of our system and move on.

One of us did.
One of us left.

Now he’s back, looking at me like he wants to devour me. And all those feelings I’d turned into anger are brewing into something else, something that terrifies me.
He broke my heart last time.
This time he'll obliterate it."

"Dear A. –
I am writing to express my gratitude for your gift. There are no sufficient words, but please accept my sincerest thank you.
Yours,
R.

She writes me back.
I didn’t expect that.
She tells me she’s a lover of chicken pizza and video games, a hot sorority girl with the nickname Sloth. She wants to know something about me in return. She says I owe her.
This is how she saves my life. She doesn’t even know it. We’ve never even seen each other. But I need a reason. Just one reason to continue. She becomes mine.
The anonymity is good. She doesn’t need to know me, but I need her kindness. We both live our lives: a letter here, a post card there. For three years, I escape my demons. And then one day I’m pulled back in.
I’ve resigned myself to what I know is coming. Until the girl I’m spanking gives her safe word: Sloth.
And then the lie I’m living starts to unravel. "

There are some other books I am currently reading for the even that I am keeping on my Kindle. Plus, there is a pile of books that I have to cart over that I just want signed. If you are interested in hearing more about Authors in the OC, I promise to give an update early next week, as well as let you know the date for 2016 tickets. I can't wait for this weekend and I am looking forward to giving you reviews of the above five books during this week and next.

XOXO
